Beyond the Cheese Board: 5 Cozy Ways to Enjoy Cheese This Fall

We love a good cheese board as much as anyone, but cheese deserves to be the main character in more than just one format.

As the days get cooler and comfort food starts calling our name, there are plenty of delicious ways to bring your favourite cheeses into everyday meals, snacks and cozy nights at home.

Here are five easy ideas to get you started.

1. Upgrade Your Grilled Cheese

Grilled cheese is already pretty perfect, but the right cheese can take it from simple lunch to I might need another one immediately.

Try mixing two cheeses for extra flavour and meltiness. Pair a sharp cheddar with something creamy, or add a little smoked cheese for more depth, like our Applewood Smoked Cheddar.

Want to take it even further? Add caramelized onions, sliced apple, bacon, pesto or a spoonful of your favourite preserve.

Pro tip: shred the cheese using a cheese grater instead of slices!

2. Bake Something Gooey

There are few things more comforting than warm, melty cheese straight from the oven.

Baked Brie or Camembert is an easy option that feels a little fancy without requiring much effort. Add honey, maple syrup, nuts, dried fruit or preserves, then bake until soft and gooey.

Serve with bread, crackers or apple slices and dig in while it’s warm.

It works just as well for company as it does for a night on the couch.

3. Make Mac and Cheese Better

If you’re already making mac and cheese, this is your sign to move beyond the orange powder.

A combination of cheeses gives homemade mac and cheese much more flavour. Try cheddar as your base, then add Gouda, Gruyère, Parmesan, smoked cheese or whatever else catches your eye.

You can also use up smaller pieces of cheese you already have in the fridge.

Consider it a delicious little fridge clean-out.

4. Add Cheese to Your Favourite Soup

Cheese and soup are a very underrated duo.

Top French onion soup with Gruyère, add Parmesan to a creamy vegetable soup, melt cheddar into potato soup, or sprinkle a little blue cheese over roasted squash soup.

Even a simple bowl of tomato soup gets infinitely better with a handful of grated cheese on top.

No complicated recipe required.

5. Turn Toast Into Dinner

Never underestimate the power of good bread and good cheese.

Start with toasted sourdough, baguette or your favourite crusty bread, add cheese, then build from there.

A few combinations we love:

- Brie + apple + honey

- Goat cheese + roasted vegetables

- Cheddar + chutney

- Blue cheese + pear

- Mozzarella + tomato + pesto

Add a simple salad on the side and suddenly toast is dinner.

And we fully support that.
